Club Rules

Membership Requirements

To join the club, you must either complete a “Come N Try” class or provide proof of previous membership with Archery Australia. Any documentation submitted will be reviewed and approved by our club’s executive committee.

Safety First

Archery involves handling equipment that can be dangerous if misused. We as a club prioritize safety above all else and wish to remind you that bow and arrows are not toys.

  • Sign-in: To meet insurance requirements, you must sign into the club’s attendance book when shooting at the range.
  • Shooting Rules:
    • Never draw an arrow unless the bow is pointing at the target area. Never point a loaded bow at anyone, animals, or anything other than the target.
    • When you’re not shooting, remain behind the “waiting line” or away from the shooting area.
    • During target shooting, you must shoot from the “shooting line,” located in front of the “waiting line.” After finishing an “end” (usually 6 arrows), step back behind the waiting line.
    • When everyone has finished shooting, archers can signal they’re ready to walk forward to score and retrieve arrows. During competitions or when the shooting line is busy, a whistle will indicate when to approach the line, shoot, or walk forward. (Whistle signals will be explained during classes.)
    • Never walk forward when others are shooting, unless part of a class held by coaches. If in doubt, ask.
  • Mobile Phones: Mobile phones should only be used for scoring (such as on I-Score) while on the range. No phone usage in front of the waiting or shooting lines for other purposes.
  • Hazard Awareness: If you notice any potential safety hazard, shout a warning immediately! A club committee member will then assess the situation and take necessary action.
  • Respect: Swearing, foul language, bullying, or any form of discrimination will not be tolerated. Archery is an inclusive sport, and all members are expected to treat each other with respect.
  • Alcohol: Alcohol is not allowed in the archery area at any time.
  • Proof of Membership: If your membership status is questioned by another member, be prepared to provide proof of your current membership.

Consideration for Other Shooters

Good sportsmanship and consideration for fellow competitors are key to a positive experience for everyone.

Noise: Avoid making excessive noise while others are shooting.

Lost Arrows: Be mindful of delays caused by searching for lost arrows. Look for lost arrows only during the time it takes other archers to score and pull their arrows. If you need to search for an arrow behind the target, always warn others and never stay in the shooting area when others are active. If arrows are not found quickly, the club may stop shooting to allow 30 minutes for the search.

Disciplinary Actions

The club reserves the right to investigate and take disciplinary action against any member who engages in unsafe or inappropriate behavior. In such cases, the committee will assess the situation, and Archery NSW or Archery Australia may also take action if necessary.
